There are approximately 1400 new items on the Volume 15 CD set. Volume 15 has approximately 6,000 files on Edition #1 and 4,000 more on Edition #2, in twenty-seven categories equaling 1,200 megabytes of compressed Macintosh software.
This CD-ROM is the most current collection available with items added as late as June, 1995. BBS in a BOX is compatible with six (6) BBS systems including First Class, Hermes, MUBBS, Nova Link, Second Sight, and Telefinder. All of these BBS systems are excellent and we are trying to support as many sysops as possible. This CD-ROM also makes a GREAT personal library! See the appropriate chapter of this document for personal or BBS use.
If its not on BBS in a BOX it probably does not exist!
Volume 15 contains over 12 topics of Macintosh software including Applescript, Bus, Control Strips, DA, Education, Fonts, Frontier, Games, Icons, Internet, Network, Powerbook, PowerMac, System 7 tools, Technotes, Telecommunications and Utilities. 15•2 contains over 13 topics including Art, Commercial Demos, HyperCard, MIDI, Multimedia, MUGs, Music, News, Newton, Programming, Publishing, QT, and Updates files. We have tested all of the files on this version of BBS in a BOX for 32 bit compatibility and all new files are tested on PowerMacs. We then added a picture preview mode that allows users to see a 128*128 pixel preview of all art, quicktime and fonts before they download them or decompress them. Telefinder, First Class and NovaLink systems currently support this function along with our program, Show Info 2.0. You can also view these previews with the AMUG Art & Font Previewer located in the Exclusives folder. We have moved Internet out of the Telecom area with this release and the Education folder is now broken down into several accessible categories.
Drag and Drop Description/PICT Reader!
Our off line description reader "Show Info" allows System 7 users to drag and drop files in the files folder on to this tool to display descriptions of any of the files in the files folder. In addition, files in the Art, Fonts and QuickTime folders will also display a 128*128 pict of the archive contents. This is a nice feature for finding information on a single file without having to decompress it or look through a directory. All compressed files are in Stuffit Deluxe format for consistency and ease of use. "Show Info" also allows you to decompress files while viewing the description.
PICT Previewer
AMUG CD now has a new preview program that allows you to view all of the fonts, QT or art files. Pict Previewer from AMUG CD, Inc. comes with its own player that allows you to search by file name or do a slide show of art, fonts and QT files on BBS in a BOX. You will find a decompressed player in the exclusives folder and a compressed one in the folder where these files reside.
Stuffit Expander
Another tool on the disk is Stuffit Expander. You can drag and drop files on to it under System 7 for easy decompression. Placing this file on the desktop along with show info gives you the ability to quickly get info on a file and decompress it if needed using AppleEvents through Show Info 2.0. We have found a bug in Stuffit Expander 3.52 that causes files once decompressed to stack icons on top of each other. You may wish to use version 3.07, which is provided, as it does not have this bug. PowerMac users may find that 3.52 is faster however.
BBS File Descriptions
“BBS in a BOX” provides BBS file descriptions on all of its compressed software. Using "Show Info" you can easily display the descriptions stored in each file as a resource. FileMaker Pro, PD Pig Out (our file catalog) and text databases of all the files are available as well.
Filemaker
The Filemaker master database is located in the Exclusives folder along with a stand-alone version of FileMaker. You can easily find your favorite file by name, key word or other search paramaters using this tool.
BBEdit Light
BBEdit is our text reader of choice. All of our directories are in BBEdit format. The nice thing about BBEdit light is that it opens any size text file without the nasty 32k limitation of many other text readers. You can also use grep searches to look for keywords in any of our directories. You will find three types of directories in our file areas. The "files by name" list which is an alphabetical listing of all files in that category. The "files by date" list which will show you all files in a category by date they were added to the BBS in a BOX CD. And the "files.db" list which allows you to import the category directory into your favorite database. All of these directories can easily be read by BBEdit.
System 7.5 find
We have found that System 7.5 find is the fastest way to find a file on the AMUG CD when you know a portion of its name. Simply use 7.5 and push command F to bring up the find box. Then, type a portion of the name, select contains, and make sure the CD is the drive selected. The program will then display the selections it has found and you can easily drag and drop them on "Show Info" from that folder to read the entire description.
AMUG on the Internet
You can now upgrade your AMUG CD's on the internet. Our order form is on the World Wide Web at https://home.amug.org/amug/amug-order.html. This is a secure site using RSA encryption of your order data. We also have info on all of our products on demand via our AMUG mail bot at emod@amug.org. We also have many mirrors of the hottest sites including BBS in a BOX at our ftp site at ftp.amug.org. For more information on any AMUG product please send mail to info@amug.org.
The Future - Volume 16
As a result of your support of the BBS in a BOX series we have been able to bring several helpers on to the project. We will find new ways to provide even more files. New releases of BBS in a BOX will be available in a two CD set with a separate CD for Windows files. We are now offering BBS in a BOX GOLD, a full year subscription to BBS in a BOX. Call (602) 553-0066 to order. If you find decompressed files to be more to your liking we now have a new CD-ROM, called "The New Stuff", it just has new files added during each four month upgrade period in decompressed format. We also are planning on having a World Wide Web interface for BBS use on the internet or for personal viewing.

Support the Authors!
If you have additional features you would like to see added to “BBS in a BOX”, please feel free to write or call us. We are interested in making the world of public domain and shareware easily understandable to the public.
AMUG CD, Inc. spends thousands of hours creating the BBS interface on this CD-ROM. Any charge for this CD-ROM is solely to support the creation of the BBS interface. No fee is charged to download any of the shareware and public domain files provided on this CD-ROM. Shareware programs require separate payment to authors if found useful.
Only by supporting the shareware authors and sending in the requested shareware fees, will this type of software distribution continue. If you decompress a file and find it useful, please pay the shareware fee. When users are dishonest with the authors, they become soured on the shareware market and may stop updating their programs, publishing new programs, or they sell their products commercially. Thanks again for supporting Shareware authors!
